Sweet and Smoky BBQ Sauce

A few years ago I started creating my own barbeque sauce.  I will admit we buy store bought barbeque sauce by the case when it’s on sale.  Really, it works just fine when you are mixing it in with a bunch of other ingredients. It also works great when you are trying to get your kids to eat any kind of meat.  Kids don’t really notice a difference between homemade and store bought barbeque sauce anyway.  Besides, a girl needs a quick fix once in a while and it helps to have a few things setting in the pantry already to use.

However, this homemade barbeque sauce blow that store bought stuff out of the water.  It tastes amazing.  So here’s how it works. Make the homemade stuff.  Hide it in the fridge. Feed your kids the other stuff.  You will be glad you made it. You will be glad you hid it too!!

Homemade Sweet BBQ sauce

Stir together all ingredients in a sauce pan.

Homemade Sweet and Spicy BBQ Sauce

Continue to simmer until sauce is reduced and thickened.  I let it simmer for about 15 minutes.

It stores well in the refrigerator.  And it is one of those things that almost gets better with time.  After awhile all the ingredients get used to each other and make friends.

Smoked Pulled Pork, Without a Smoker

One of my favorite ways to use this sauce is with pulled pork.  Come back on Wednesday and I will show you a simple trick that will take your pulled pork from good to amazing!  It’s so simple.  You will wonder why everyone doesn’t make pulled pork like this.  I thought of it while I was jogging one day.  It’s oh so yummy!!

Sweet and Smoky BBQ Sauce

A little spicy and a lot sweet! This barbeque sauce takes grilled meat and pulled pork from ordinary to amazing!!

I am glad you were able to finally come up w a written recipe for the BBQ sauce, cuz it is hard to duplicate the perfect sauce recipe if you didn’t write it down as you go. I love all of the spices in this recipe and the molasses in it as well.

I will be back on Wednesday to see how you make the pulled pork.

    Love
    Mom

I just made BBQ chicken tonight – next time I make it I’m going to try your BBQ sauce recipe. Maybe after your next post I’ll be inspired to make pulled pork instead!

Hello Dear, Thank you for all the time you spend sharing your lovely family, stories, and recipes with us ‘strangers’ to you actually…GOD had placed this desire and His love into your heart!

For your homemade BBQ sauce, what do you mean by a sealed jar … do you do a hot water bath of it to seal it with a lid and ring?

When a child and we drove a few miles north of Milwaukee WI for fresh eggs on a farm, I wished I could just stay there, that the kids had to be the luckiest in the whole world! I’m sure your boys feel they are.

I’m ‘retired’ now (not truly, with grandchildren and grown daughter who needs my help), but I’ve found your lovely blog that I shall enjoy more than others!

    Love in Christ

Glad you found me! I enjoy my family and hope that we will make others smile too!

I have never sealed my BBQ sauce in a jot water bath so I’m not sure how that would work. I usually put it in a jar and store it in the refrigerator. Jars are like Tupperware to me! Lol! Anything that seals tight would work great!

      Enjoy your semi-retired life!
