I don’t care to drive on slick roads. I absolutely do not enjoy being cold. Pretty soon I find that long cold winters turn me into a hermit. That’s why I don’t understand why my kids always want to go outside when it’s so cold out there. A few Saturdays ago I allowed my kids to have a wind down day. A day to do whatever they wanted to do. Usually I take advantage of their time on Saturday and ask them to vacuum the cars, sweep the garage, haul the garbage…and the list goes on. I am a master of thinking of jobs for my kids to do. I figure a busy boy is a happy boy.
Branson was dying to build a sled. My boys have a pile of “scrap” wood they are welcome to use. Look how cute this little thing is. They hooked this sled to the back of the four wheeler and went sledding in the pasture! If I wasn’t such a cold weather wimp I would have gone out and taken pictures.
I love projects like this. Think of all the things that he learned while he was building this sled. How to use tools, measuring and math skills, design and planning, how to have a vision and sticking with a job until it’s done! I’m so glad he wants to spend his free time doing things like this! He is so proud of his sled and I’m so proud of him!
This is the baby. He may not have learned as much during his free time although he had a great time. He decided to play Ice Road Truckers. Have you ever seen that show. My boys love all of those kind of shows. Payson ended up getting lots of exercise driving his truck as fast as possible on the leftover ice!
He insisted that I take a picture of him doing 360’s in his truck. The child is obsessed with 360’s. He thought he would do some 360’s the first time he went snowboarding. He wants to do a few when he rides his motorbike this summer. He’s a bit of a wild man. I was so glad that he chose to run around wild during his free day. He slept very well that night!
As usual, I had to bribe the boys to come in the house that night! All I had to do was promise them these Hot Cocoa Floats and they decided it would be okay to call it a day!
Have fun with your kids on Saturday! It will be fun to see what kind of projects they think up. Remember you can always get your kids to come home by mopping the floor or promising them Hot Cocoa Floats!
