Grilled Ham, Cheese, and Pear Sandwhiches with Jam

June is dairy month. I decided I would celebrate by sharing some of my favorite “dairy” recipes today.  I’m sure you have noticed by now that my family incorporates dairy products into almost every recipe we make.  We are addicted to dairy products!!  I hope you are too!!

I decided to start the week out with a grilled cheese sandwich.  I love grilled cheese sandwiches. Something about all of that melted cheese that I just can’t get enough of.  I love plain old two slices of bread with cheese between them, grilled cheese sandwiches. I also love a dolled up grilled cheese sandwich.  This Grilled Ham, Cheese and Pear Sandwich happens to be one of my top two  favorites.  The salty of the cheese and ham and the sweet of the pear is a match made in heaven.  Dunking the sandwich in strawberry or raspberry jam makes it even yummier, and more fun too!!

Grilled Ham and Cheese

Get two slices of bread and butter the outsides.

Grilled Ham and Cheese, with fruit

Layer on a couple slices of cheddar cheese to unbuttered side of one slice of bread.

Grilled Cheese and Pear

Layer on sliced pear.  An apple works great too.

grilled cheese with ham

Layer sliced deli ham on top of pears.  Top with slices of Swiss cheese.  I forgot to take a picture of that step.  Just don’t forget to do that step. Top sandwich with other slice of bread.  Put the buttered side on the outside of the sandwich.

Grilled Ham, Pear and Cheese SandwichesGrill in a skillet or on a griddle over medium heat.  Grill until cheese is melted and outside is golden brown.

Celebrate dairy month with me and make this Grilled Ham, Pear, and Cheese Sandwich.  It will  make you smile!!

I love that you slice your own cheese and you don’t use that pre packaged stuff the rest of us get from the store.

There seems to be a big difference between the cheese non dairy people buy and the cheese dairy farmers order and have delivered. Must be one of the many perks dairy farmers get to enjoy. Your cheese always tastes better and seems to melt better too,.

Once when my Mom was making homemade strawberry jam, I made grilled cheese sandwiches and dunked them in the foam she skimmed off of the jam. I ate so much strawberry jam I broke out in the hives, so be careful. But even as a little girl, just a few years ago, I loved the combination of grilled cheese and jam. Sometimes I just spread the toasted sandwich with jam just like I would a plain piece of toast. Toast is one of my all time favorite comfort foods.

I’ve never had a ham “samish” with fresh pear, but I am going to try it sooner than later. Dad will love it. Thanks for sharing.
