Recipe type: Appetizer
Cuisine: American
Serves: 8
Ingredients
  • 1 8 oz. pkg cream cheese
  • 2 cups peeled, cored, and finely diced apples
  • 2 T. butter
  • ½ c. caramel ice cream topping
  • dash sea salt
  • Ritz crackers, graham crackers, pretzels, or vanilla wafers for serving.
Instructions
  1. Place cream cheese on a serving plate. Set aside while preparing the apples.
  2. Peel, core, and dice apples.
  3. In a skillet melt butter over medium high heat. Add apples and saute just until tender. Remove apples from heat and add caramel ice cream topping. Toss to coat apples.
  4. Spoon apples over cream cheese.
  5. Serve with crackers.
  6. NOTE: If you wanted to prepare this appetizer ahead of time you could saute apples, add caramel and refrigerate them. Just before serving microwave apples until they are warmed through. Allow enough time for cream cheese to come to room temperature before adding apples. Otherwise it will be too firm to spread.
